FlexiProject vs Deltek
What is the main difference between FlexiProject and Deltek?
Deltek PPM is a set of five products for program controls: scheduling, schedule quality, cost and earned value, analytics and change workflows. FlexiProject keeps the schedule, budget, risks and decisions in one browser application, on the project plan module.
Is FlexiProject a full Deltek alternative?
For a PMO that plans, approves and reviews projects, yes. For earned value reporting under DoD or NASA rules, no. FlexiProject has no EVM indices and no Monte Carlo analysis.
Which system is easier for a project manager to pick up?
Deltek PPM assumes a trained planner and a cost analyst. FlexiProject is used by project managers without training in scheduling engines, and the kanban board module runs on the same data as the chart.
Can both systems run side by side?
Yes. Large programs stay on Deltek controls, while the rest of the portfolio moves to FlexiProject. Portfolio reporting then runs on project portfolios module.
Schedule and planning
Does Deltek support baselines and the critical path?
Yes. Open Plan is a critical path engine with baselines, all four relationship types and lead or lag time. FlexiProject offers the same range in the browser, on a schedule any project manager opens without training.
Does Deltek need an installation on the workstation?
Open Plan is installed from a Windows package, in a 32-bit or a 64-bit build, on one workstation or from a server. FlexiProject opens in a browser and needs nothing on the computer.
Can a schedule be moved from Deltek to FlexiProject?
Export the schedule to MS Project format and import the file. Tasks, dates and relationships arrive with it, and you rebuild the structure in the Gantt chart module.
Does FlexiProject handle a formal change of plan?
A change request carries a justification, shows the current and the proposed plan side by side and goes through project approval module. The approved version becomes the new baseline.
Budget, risks and products
Does Deltek have project budgets?
Cobra manages cost and earned value, and it is a separate product from the scheduling tool. In FlexiProject the project budget module sits next to the schedule, with costs, revenue and the forecast to completion.
Does Deltek have a risk register?
Acumen Risk holds a risk register with Monte Carlo simulation, and it is bought as its own product. FlexiProject keeps the risk register module inside every project, with a configurable matrix and response plans.
Where do deliverables and acceptance criteria live in Deltek?
Deltek PPM plans work packages and control accounts, not products with acceptance criteria. That dimension is described in the tab above.
Does FlexiProject calculate EVM indices?
No. CPI and SPI are not calculated in the application, and this is where Deltek is genuinely strong. FlexiProject tracks deviation from the baseline and budget variance instead.
Portfolio, PMO and reporting
Does Deltek score and prioritize projects?
The PPM line reports on programs already under way; a scoring model with criteria and weights is not part of it. In FlexiProject, scoring is described in the tab above.
Can strategic goals be linked to projects?
Deltek PPM measures delivery of the program, not the strategy behind it. FlexiProject links a project to a goal with a baseline, a target and a current value.
How does a PMO run recurring reviews?
PM Compass drives a monthly status and variance cycle for programs. FlexiProject runs project reviews module on a calendar per portfolio, with the report filled from project data.
Who prepares management reports?
Deltek analytics is a separate product with its own licence. In FlexiProject a PMO builds project reports module without programming and exports them to Excel with the filters kept.
Implementation and configuration
How long does a Deltek implementation take?
Deltek does not publish a figure. The products are delivered with professional services and a partner network, and the integrations between them are set up by consultants.
Can a PMO configure FlexiProject on its own?
Yes. Charters, templates, approval paths and roles are set in the interface, without a developer and without an implementation consultant. Each unit keeps its own standard in the workspace module.
Can Deltek be tested before buying?
Deltek PPM is shown through a demo booked with a salesperson. FlexiProject opens a trial account you create yourself, with full access for thirty days.
Licences, integrations and security
Does Deltek publish a price list?
No. The price comes from a quote, and every product of the suite is licensed separately. The FlexiProject price list is public.
Is there an on-premises version?
Both systems run on your own server. In FlexiProject the server version carries the same scope as the cloud one.
What integrations come with the licence?
FlexiProject brings Jira integration, Microsoft Teams, single sign-on, the API and the mobile app in the standard licence.
